I grew up on a farm so of course being prepared was just part of every day life. Farmers have to anticipate the unexpected. Maybe that is what is wrong with people. Maybe they are so used to flipping a switch or putting a dollar in a slot and getting something instantaneously that they have forgotte...

Yes, maybe so used to or even never experienced it.
I read in an article a while back about a dad saying his kids were complaining that the micro-wave oven was too slow. They might get real impatient waiting for a pig to roast in the ground.
