Not the way I meant it, it isn't. The bible says to love your neighbor as you love yourself. You have to start with yourself. I see so many people, especially young people with little to no self esteem and they make really bad decisions that affect them for the rest of their life because of it. Such as the fatherless girls who fall for the first usually no good guy that gives them attention. Many of these women repeat this behavior for their entire lives. If you don't even love yourself, you have none to give to anyone else. And that is what is meant by love yourself first and most. Most - because - you are given your precious life to live as a gift. Even the bible says turn from your own family if it holds you apart from God and - this is the basis of it. Love your own life and don't allow anyone to ruin it. This is part of 26 lines - not a stand alone thought.
IMHO when you love - respect - yourself then your compassion for others is genuine but you still value your precious gift of life enough not to allow anyone without love for themselves, or you - to ruin yours.
Ok, I see where you are coming from. I'm thinking what is lacking is the first commandment Jesus said was the most important; to love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul, and mind. It's only by His definitions of love can we truly love ourselves and our neighbor.
well - this wasn't a spiritual lesson - but all of the lessons came from a spiritual experience. I got these as answers to prayers. This has been my beef lately. We are ALL victims of lifetime events. Most of us carry it with us but not for the world to see. Others carry it on their shoulders where they soon develop a 'chip'.
Get over it, I want to scream!! Love yourself and soon others will love you too. It's contagious.
Thanks Rocky. So true - we could all play the victim card on a continuous basis if we wanted to. That's a choice of a view about life. And victims always feel, remorse, fear, without any personal power over life, sorry for themselves and sometimes shame as well. And we all feel those things but if w...
Thanks Rocky. So true - we could all play the victim card on a continuous basis if we wanted to. That's a choice of a view about life. And victims always feel, remorse, fear, without any personal power over life, sorry for themselves and sometimes shame as well. And we all feel those things but if we choose to let them go and in faith embrace life as full of infinite possibilities, we can go from victim to victor - in the span of a moment controlled by our own minds.
Get over it, I want to scream!! Love yourself and soon others will love you too. It's contagious.
