The Honorable Ron DeSantis - James Madison Accountability Act
I thought I would never say this, but I am proud of my Congressman. I have been known to be quite blunt in criticizing politicians. However when an elected official does a lot of things right, they deserve respect and the term Honorable. I am referring to The Honorable Congressman Ron DeSantis, from Florida District 6.
The Honorable Congressman Ron DeSantis the freshman Congressman from Florida is not only doing what he promised, he is taking the lead on legislation to set things right in Washington. A while ago he proposed an amendment to the Continuing Resolution to fund the Federal Government called the “James Madison Congressional Accountability Act”. The House passed this amendment with the latest Continuing Resolution to fund the government sent to the Senate.
This is a quote from Congressman the Ron DeSantis website
The James Madison Congressional Accountability Act prohibits the Obama administration from issuing special and unauthorized subsidies to members of Congress and congressional staff for use on the ObamaCare exchanges. DeSantis issued the following statement:
“It is appalling that the bureaucracy has attempted to shield Washington insiders from the plain text of ObamaCare by illegally granting members of Congress special subsidies not available to the American people,” DeSantis said. “It is a simple issue of fairness: members of Congress, their staff, and the political elite should not be given special relief from the harmful effects of ObamaCare while the rest of America is left holding the bag. I am glad that the House has passed my amendment; now the Senate must decide whether they are so insistent on receiving special treatment that they are willing to shut down the government to protect these unauthorized subsidies.”
Weather it becomes law or not it puts the idea out there that the people who make the laws should be bound by those laws. This Amendment by going through the legislative process forces each member of the House and Senate to publically declare if they feel that are above the law or not. Moreover, if this amendment is enacted, it will force Congress to actually live by the laws they pass. By removing some of the wall of privilege that protects those in Washington, they may learn that the real world is not a figment of their legislation. They may learn that their actions, even those with good intensions, have real world consequences, most of which are unintended. Then they just might see that the laws, mandates and even aid that they force on the American people usually hurts more people than it helps.
If just ONE congressperson would carry the ball and stop sugar coating interactions with Democrats, maybe we could get the word out. I wish your DeSantis the best. I'll...
